Five Collaborations We Love

May 14th, 2024 | By Maya Malan-Gonzalez & Alexandra Meda

We hope we find the energy to post many of of our favorite collaborations because these wonderful folks are just the tip of the iceberg. We decided to start with five that cover a few different types of collaboration.

With Cheech and Chong, it’s not just the silly that gets these two on our list—and it’s not just the marijuana either—it's the idea of a lifelong artistic, messy, friendship-driven collaboration.

We couldn’t not include an ensemble— and this one— like so many of our other faves, has a family element to it. Husband and wife Jose Luis Valenzuela and the inimitable Evelina Fernandez have been collaborating with the rest of their ensemble ( Geoffrey Rivas, Sal Lopez, and Lucy Rodriguez) that makes up The Latino Theatre Company for DECADES.

We really wanted to include an example of an organization collaborating with an individual artist, and we just fucking adore both Cara Mia Theatre and the irresistible brilliant Virginia Grise.

Collaborations come in all shapes and sizes. We aren’t just fangirling over theatre and entertainment collaborations. We find inspiration in the grass-roots movement-building between Dolores Huerta and Cesar Chavez, where activism, family-filled fights, and cariño drove these two to do incredible things together.

Speaking of family, from their early youth, these brothers, Luis and Daniel Valdez, have been working together to make theatre and movies and have raised new generations that continue their artistic legacies.

Now it’s your turn. Please comment below on who are some of your favorite faves and dreamiest dreamy collaborators/collaborations.
