Growing Older and Catching New Plays in New Ways at NNPN
I roll into Sacramento with my partner Lakin and Sirius our pug on April 27th. Alex has been in a 12 hour board meeting! Just kidding, it was actually only 4 hours- but still, so long! We grab a delicious bite at the hotel restaurant with Milagro Theatre’s Executive Director, Jose Gonzalez (also, coincidentally my father) and after a very fun dinner, we head to bed excitedly awaiting day 1 of the National New Play Network convening: New Plays New Ways.
Breaking My Bones
Ever been so desperate for change and growth that you consider breaking yourself apart for it? Have you ever looked up to the sky and felt limited by it rather than expanded? These are some of the questions we are interrogating with the theme for our second Talking While FCKD Live: Storytelling Sessions Thursday, May 25th at 7pm at THE STUDIO in Boyle.
There aren’t enough bleeps to make this podcast safe for all ears…
Drip Drip Drip.... we are letting you in on a little secret... after legitimately 12 different attempts to produce a podcast starting around 2016, we finally got our lives together...
We are ready to leave behind all of those never heard episodes and launch a 🧨 smoke show of a podcast that is absolutely, positively, unapologetically OBSESSED with storytelling and chatting it up with Latinx and WOC CREATIVE GENIUSES that will take us to places we didn’t know we needed oh so badly to go.
Exquisite Grace: #HowWeValue
This week I was invited to give a talk with a group of first years at the David Geffen School of Drama on Anti-Oppressive Practices At Culturally Specific Organizations. And maybe it was the moment I was in this week or the approaching full moon that was down the pike as I prepared for this. But I landed on discussing the often unspoken thing: that culturally specific institutions perpetuate the same white supremacy culture characteristics as predominantly white institutions. It is almost heartbreaking because it comes from a place of unseen pain compounded by harm, steeped by confusion. However, I also wanted to share how we combat that daily.
You Thought We Were Cancelled Forever…
Darlings. We legit almost vanquished off the face of this earth... but we've survived and clawed our way back to tell another story. That means Season 5 of TWF is back with an all-new title: Talking While Fckd, and we launch March 23rd, 2023 at Studio Luna in Boyle Heights with the first episode, CRESCENDO. Step One: The Vision
Walking into Studio Luna’s first event was thrilling.
Following the pandemic shut down, and going from no contact to some contact to semi-back to normal is hard on everyone. But in all honesty, I missed my friends. I wasn’t going to miss an opportunity to 1.) be around them, and 2.) share and set goals with inspiring individuals.
As you walked in you saw the tables lined up in the middle of the studio with magazines baskets on each end. In front of each chair was a cork board with all the fixings for it to be mounted up onto a wall.

Let’s Prompt This New Year!
Naming what you want is such a powerful tool and even better when you have a community in which you can share those things you wish to manifest with. January has this magic about it that brings forth hopes and dreamer vibes. It’s in our nature at the start of the year to look forward and think about all the changes we want to make, the practices we want to adopt and all the goals we hope to accomplish.
Chasing New
In the spirit of pushing against the new year, new me, without fully honoring and holding on to what was already great about old me, my brain can’t turn off a memory that is leading to a million and one thoughts.“We are designed to repeat our mistakes until we fully learn the lesson,” a former friend and colleague once said in an attempt to console me as I whined about being in the same situation for the third time in the last five years.
